I had heard good things of Mainak Dhar’s writing and that his previous book 3:02 was a cracking thriller. So I was really excited when an opportunity popped up to review his latest book, Sniper’s Eye. As I started to read it, my only hope was that my excitement about the book and the author was justified.
Aaditya Ghosh works in a corporate company called GRS International. He is in a relationship with his colleague Zoya. But when they are on a date in a mall, a sniper shot takes down the man in front of him. One toe into this mess makes sure that his past, which he had been trying hard to keep covered, comes calling and sucks him in. What will be the end of all the bloodshed and bodies that are erupting across the country? Will Aaditya get out of all this unscathed?
As I write this review, I’m in a sort of happy haze. And that’s because of Sniper’s Eye. It’s been a long time since I read a well-researched thriller that gives me an adrenalin rush like no other. The first 4 pages in themselves are a delight to read – not because a man died, obviously – but because they start off the story with a bang, setting the tone and the pace for the entire book.
I absolutely love the writing style and even went ahead and told the author so. There’s such ease and élan in there that it left me breathless in so many places. I just couldn’t put the book down, and even if I did, I would be itching to pick it back up. The plot is gripping in ways that I hadn’t even remotely anticipated. It is crisp and intense for the most part, and made me glad for having taken the opportunity to read this book!
The biggest reason why I was taken in by this book was the rough, raw manner in which the author has described the Army perspective altogether in here and it appealed to me. Unnecessary twists are conjured out of thin air and slapped onto anyone or anything out there. Why should we indulge in dirty politics when we can all live in peace? I realize that’s a question that will be laughed at in this time and age, but that does not mean it’s irrelevant. Slandering, hating, and bringing down others is wrong, no matter what the end result might be.

Sniper’s Eye came as a pleasant surprise to me, despite my initial excitement about the book. In addition to the above reasons, it was also an easy read. I finished it in under a day. The story, the concepts used, and the ideals portrayed in here are very realistic. Every time I came across one such, I smiled.
The only reason why I’m lopping off a star is because the pace isn’t uniform. The first half is fast, while the second is slightly slower. Nothing else to complain about, though.
So if you are looking for a thriller that will keep you on the edge of your seat and take you on a journey of bitter truth, Sniper’s Eye is the one for you! Pick it up and you will enjoy it!
